All, I hope that everybody is doing well and using all of the great tips, techniques, and methods that they learned at SAS Global Forum 2009! I just happened upon this link on my desktop and clicked on it for grins. I was surprised to see that this web site is still up. How long do you suppose this web site will be up? ----MMMMIIIIKKKKEEEE
Looking for some place to go for dinner on Tuesday night before the Kickback Party? Why not check out the "Night Out" board down the hall from the Registration Desk? This is a great opportunity to hang out with new or familiar SAS Global Forum faces and grab a bite to eat of your favorite food. You can sign up for a group led by a well-known SAS user, or start your own group. You’ll be responsible for your own expenses in these small groups of 10... [read more]
Fellow Conference Attendees, There may be no such thing as a free lunch, but at SAS Global Forum 2009 there _IS_ such a thing as a free book! On Monday, from 6:45-7:00pm, in the SAS Publishing booth area of the Demo Room, the SAS Presss folks will be holding a drawing and giving away, not one, not two, not three, not four, not five, but SIX (6) books! Those books were authored by SAS luminaries: Art Carpenter, Patricia Cerrito, Ron Cody, George M... [read more]
Just in time for SGF09, my 2nd SAS book "Power User's Guide to SAS Programming" (ISBN: 978-1-4092-5088-3) is now available through Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk, as well as directly through Lulu.com. Just go to www.hollandnumerics.com for links to both my SAS books on Amazon. Needless to say that I'll be more than happy to talk about both books, and future projects, if you meet me at the conference.
I'm glad to announce that SAS is launching the Inside SAS Global Forum video series again this year! Alan Hoffler will be back as our roving reporter, providing that fun, informative and sometimes irreverant, behind-the-scenes look at this important SAS users conference. You may have caught our behind-the-scenes video reports from SAS Global Forum last year in San Antonio. http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=FD2E2270157FEE09 Last year we post... [read more]
I am responsible for SAS solutions at Resolvit. I am looking to find individuals in Cininnati, Chicago, Raleigh, and DC to meet with to talk about how to get better connected into the SAS community in each of the cities. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Look forward to meeting with you!
I would like to take the opportunity at the SAS Global Forum 2009 to meet people to share experience in developing software tools using SAS/IntrNet (App Dispatcher and htmSQL).
Is anyone interested in a Birds of a Feather Session that talks about how to present data on the internet/Intranet for end users to query? Or how to place SAS tables or views in a form that internal non-SAS programmers can query? I saw Michael Raithel mentioned the intranet, is this the same subject?
The SGF is only a few days away. It is time to forget and put down our heavy workload for a moment, and, in a new setting, make friends, enjoy conversations, exchange ideas. In the end we all will be more energetic, more productive, and even more enlightened. I have been working with experts in other fields at the FDA and together we created review tools using SAS/IntrNet for drug evaluation purposes. I know in this field many of you are my teach... Hi, all. We've put together a Netvibes page to aggregate all the different online and social media outlets related to SAS Global Forum. http://www.netvibes.com/sasglobalforum09#Welcome If you see something that should be there, or if you'd like me to add your stream to the Twitter page, let me know. Hi, all. If you've heard a lot about Twitter and aren't sure what it's all about, or why it might be useful, come to the Social Media 101 Birds-of-a-Feather session at 6:00 p.m. Monday and Tuesday night. We'll be in Maryland 3. I'll be talking about blogs, social networks like Facebook and LinkedIn, Twitter and how to follow blogs and other news sources via RSS feed. Bring your questions!
Who else will be twittering at sgf09? Please add your twitter id & let's plan a tweetup event during the conference! @sasbi
When I first started going to SAS Global Fourm (well SUGI actually) I never went to the opening session. Why? I like to explore the places I am visiting, so Sunday afternoon and Sunday evening were spent exploring the area. One thing I noticed though was what appeared to be crypic comments made during papers and different discussions that everyone but me seemed to understand. At first I put it down to the fact that these people knew more about SA... [read more]
Twitter has caused quite the stir around the globe. Like many of you, I tweet about SAS, some of my personal insights and my business challenges. Many of us are friends on Twitter. Now, let's get together in person. Thus, the first SASTweetup that I know of will be held: Time - Sunday, 8:30 p.m. Place - Belvedere Bar, Gaylord National Resort, National Harbor, DC Can't wait to meet those of you that I follow and I'm excited to meet new SAS Twitter... Fellow Conference Attendees, Washington, DC has a very active underground scene that is enjoyed by almost half a million people every day. It is known as "Metro" (which is short for Metrorail); a subway system that is comprised of 86 stations, 106 miles of track, and 1068 rail cars that operate in Washington DC, as well as the Maryland, and Virginia suburbs. Metro is a clean, efficient, convenient way to get around the city; so you might consider... [read more]

Fellow Conference Attendees, You may find yourself with some time to kill before or after (certainly not during) SAS Global Forum 2009. Since Washington, DC is in my big "back yard" and I get the occasional friend or relative who comes to town to sight-see, I have compiled a general list of sight-seeing ideas. Hopefully one or more will resonate with your schedule and tastes. The Spy Museum; then Chinatown restaurants, which are nearby. Or vice v... [read more]
So by now you have probably heard about the Career Connections Day at SAS Global Forum on Sunday, March 22, from 9 am to 4 pm. You don’t want to miss the opportunity to network with participating companies regarding career opportunities. I did receive information that Federal Express is providing support for folks in the US that are looking for work by providing 25 free copies of your resume today (March 10)! One way I've found to maximize my time and opportunities, and take full advantage of everything that SAS Global Forum (SGF) has to offer, is to use the Personal Agenda Builder. It permits a quick search of the database of conference presentation abstracts, pre- and post-conference activities, and SAS-sponsored training classes to find topics of interest. It also provides an easy way to filter results by any combination of paper type, industry, co... [read more]
SAS Global Forum is about 1 month away (as I write this) and for a change I am prepared or at least almost prepared. If you are coming to SAS Global Forum for the first time you will want to be prepared. Be prepared to learn - there are so many papers available your head will seem to be spinning at times. Make sure you spend some time before you leave for DC to review the schedule and abstracts; identify a handful of papers you think are 'must se... [read more]
The conference is less than a month away and the Section Chairs and Focus Session Leaders are actively putting together their lists of Session Coordinators. This year, with the expanded program, we need volunteers to help out more than ever. Remember SAS Global Forum is what it is because of the volunteers. You too can help out. It's easy. It's fun. And it's a great way to meet folks. No special knowledge is needed. Learn more about volunteering ... [read more]

It's always a frenzied time for these last few weeks before SGF. Our papers had to be in a while back, but the PowerPoints still need to be completed, so we're busily working on those, not only for formal presentations but for demos (both Super and Mortal, I guess). An interesting aspect about this SGF is that we have a release going out the door (9.2 Phase 2), so I will be in a better position than previously to be pondering additional functiona... [read more]
Is anyone interested in trying to get a short gathering of the Florida SAS users who happen to be in DC. I think all of the formerly active user groups in the state are on long-term hiatus - South Florida, Gulf Coast, Orlando, Gainesville, and Jacksonville + I don't know if we ever had a group in Tallahassee (other than an in-house group or two). Any interest in revival? Speak up if interested. Andy
